A TYPICAL OFFICE VISIT
with Katherine Fox, C.C.H.T.
The first session generally averages an hour and a half.
You are asked to fill out a personal information form and sign my therapy agreement.
Then, together, we will fill out a 13 question questionnaire called ® An Outcome Frame Interview
This is a questionnaire I authored based on Nuero Linguistic Programming (NLP). What this interview helps us to do is get you in touch with your purpose for your visit.
So, I start with: "What is it that you want from this session?"
For example, a client comes in to lose weight, but that can be a symptom of the root cause of a low self-esteem, a lack of confidence, or insomnia.
The remaining questions build on that initial foundation. Once I have the information I need to do our first session, I then turn the interview over to you. At this time you can ask questions about me, my work, about hypnosis.
Then I go over the various things one may experience in a hypnotic trance. Such as, physically you may feel as if you are melting into the chair, (I use a recliner), or a floating feeling, tingly, heavy, some clients report out-of-body experiences. But what ever you feel, know that it is perfectly natural for you.
Next, I cover the basic myths, such as, you will not go to sleep, you will hear and remember everything I say, you will not lose control, and you will not do anything against your will.
I am always checking in with the client to see if they have any questions so far.
I also mention that, if it is their first time being hypnotized that they may wonder if they are indeed hypnotized. I respond to that by saying that after the trance we will talk about your experience and you will know.
I mention that I may ask you to visualize in your mind's eye that you are at the beach, but for whatever reason your mind is in the mountains, I encourage the client to go where their mind takes them. Any place that you imagine is perfectly fine, because what I am doing will still be accomplished even though I am talking about waves, sand oozing between your toes, warm sun, blue skies, palm trees, and the smell of salty sea air.
I go over the anatomy of a trance, which consists of three parts:
- Part I... is to profoundly relax your body and mind,
- Part II... is to bypass the conscious mind, your critical factor, and
- Part III... is to work with the subconscious mind where positive suggestions will be given.
Then the trance itself. The first time, even if you have been hypnotized in the past by someone else, averages about 45 minutes. Doing each of the three parts above that I refer to as the Anatomy of a Trance.
After the trance is complete, we talk about your experience, I give you feedback and you can ask more questions.
And the session is complete.
I do all of the trance work, as some hypnotherapists use a prerecorded tape, sometimes of someone elses voice, to do the induction.
I do not believe in this method. I am oftened asked, "How many sessions will I need?"
I say that you will know, but that the initial session, and a follow up in a week for an hour would be the most beneficial.
In fact, most follow up sessions are just an hour. We check in, review what worked, what did not work, if anything, and then begin the trance for that session.
Generally, what you will feel after the trance, as reported to me by my clients, is an incredible sense of relaxation and an energetic and refreshed feeling. Some even say, after I bring them back, that they liked the feeling so much that they want to stay in that state of relaxation.
